I guess I could have thought about the duke’s authority, but I thought implying tradition was enough for Scarlet who does, ultimately, respect her dad.
Absolutely! I like the tradition aspect - I think it is really nice when the whole family is involved in marriage in the sense that the prospective son-in-law is getting vetted and the parents make sure their kid is making a good choice for the future. I think I was thinking more about the duke's authority overall in this story- with Scarlet taking point on so much of the restoration of her family's name and land... I guess I'm sort of wondering like what does the duke do? Where does his leadership come in? I feel like its hinted at and maybe that's just a completely separate story from the one you're telling (which is also totally cool). It feels like the duke is the figurehead of the family in name but Scarlet is the figurehead in practice.
